We have been working on an update to our original Helvetica Calendar Concept that we created in 2008. The above is a sneek peak of V2 which we hope to be making available in the New Year. The Calendar is split into three separate sections each printed on a plastic for longevity and ringbound. The idea is that unlike the previous version this calendar would be able to be used on a year to year basis. Keep an eye out for more news soon and if anyone would be interested in helping produce the calendar then please contact greig@effektivedesign.co.uk

Great solution to the problems of illegal bicycle parking in Japan. Spotted via the Howies Brainfood blog
You might have seen the wonderful Christmas By Colour poster that we showcased last year which was produced by Raw. We this year they have take it a step further and produced packs of Christmas Cards which pick up on the Pantone style colour swatches from the poster. A nice simple card idea and at only £3.95 per pack of 6 its good value. Get on over to the CBC shop and get them ordered.

I was shocked to hear of the fall of another great studio this morning when I heard that BB/Saunders seems to have shut its doors. This message is currently displayed on their site. Real shame I liked a lot of the work that they did particularly the Five stuff. Hopefully out of something old will grow something new. Good luck to all involved.

Great video here from the Smithsonian traveling exhibition American Letterpress: The Art of Hatch Show Print, this video shows you the art of letterpress printing as practiced by a 125-year-old Nashville, TN, print shop. Learn why only a handful of letterpress shops still exist in American and why this one is so influential in the music and entertainment industry. A great look at the craft and well worth 8 minutes of your time. Now I want to go to Nashville!
Frost* Typographic Sculpture

Sculptures by the sea is a fantastic outdoor exhibition which is currently taking place in Sydney along the popular walk between Coogee and Bondi beach. I was lucky enough to enjoy some of the fantastic pieces at last years event but I just got an email from Frost design who have this year got in on the act with this large format typographic solution, see more at Vince’s blog. Using the coastline handrail as a grid they have completed a quote form Lewis Carroll’s introductory poem to Alice in Wonderland, All in the Golden Afternoon. I particularly like the low-fi approach using a length of typical Frost orange material wrapped around the handrail. If your around Sydney I recommend checking it out.
